Naan Magaan Alla - Review (3.8/5)

Naan Magaan Alla is pretty good movie. Actually the movie has got one of the best screenplays in recent times of Tamil cinema and I am sure that this movie will receive an award for the same. Music and Camera were equally good too. On the whole this is a Good movie, I would suggest it as a must watch. Esp. for making a Good Commercial movie is quite hard, where the only attraction would be its screenplay. Its NOT POSSIBLE to provide something new in every movie, we must be ready to accept that.

First Half – Breezy nicely scripted part. Camera was mostly bright with karthi related scenes and used a different shade for villains which was quite appreciable. Songs were good. As this is not a movie for love, one can’t expect a better ‘Falling in Love’ Explanation even then it is a lot better than Pollaadhavan in this part.
At no part of the movie was the heroine used as a ‘C’ Class attraction like in Pollaadhavan. Hero – Heroine interactions were good, none where too cinematic. The director took real good care in portraying the heroine as a beautiful girl and not as a sexy one. Family scenes were quite realistic. And most importantly an intermission point where both the shades of the movie start to mix was awesome. (any interval scene must drive some eagerness into the audience – which it did)

Second half - This is were the screenplay takes on. In scenes like karthi chasing the bad-uncle character, the camera has taken a step over the screenplay. Karthi’s father death was portrayed in best manner avoiding ppl crying like hell or disturbing the audience with the rituals conducted or some irrelevant music. It was all perfect, did nicely set up the mood change for audience. Kajal could proudly say that she has played the most decent and clean sheet role in a quite possible violent commercial movie. Kajal, who fills the screen mostly with karthi in first half is nicely left out in second half. With final fight as expected, but power packed in forms of music(bgm), camera and the threat/fear shown in each characters face.
